Get Tough!: how to win in hand-to-hand fighting, as taught to the British Commandos, and U.S. Armed Forces
This is a really cool piece of World War 2 history. Major W.E. Fairbairn, inventor of the Fairbairn System is the man who instructed the British Commandos on how to fight in close quarters. Based on his days working with the Shanghai Municipal Police (where he led the famous Shanghai Riot Squad) and drawing upon almost every form of martial arts and close-quarters fighting styles to distill a comprehensive system in order to fight Nazis in World War 2. He also worked on the design of what has been deemed the perfect fighting knife, the Fairbairn-Sykes Fighting Knife.
The book shows the many ways in which a fight may occur and the specific ways to attack and defend. Heavily illustrated and diagrammed, including best practices with the knife, which has an entire chapter devoted to it.
An interesting note, the German soldiers are always the enemy in the illustrations.
The book is overall quite nice, with a little soiling to the rear cover, jacket has some rubbing and wear but is quite scarce. Binding loose but intact and strong.
Written by Major W. E. Fairbairn. 1942, 121 pgs. 15th printing.
